Will the web service allow queuing, or does the request have to be sent immediately before the message is to be sent?

The SmushBox will allow queuing of SMS messages, meaning you can send an SMS message to it with a specific date and time, and it will send the message then. A great example of how this might be used would be to manage appointments - where you could have the system automatically notify the person the day before, reminding them of the time, etc. The SmushBox should support at least 1000 queued messages, and in all likelihood substantially more, but that's a safe number to expect. Each outgoing message will take 1-8 seconds to be sent and received, depending on mobile network.

For people who already use a SMTP gateway to send SMS's, the SmushBox has a similar mechanism. Instead of acting as a server, which would be difficult to configure behind firewalls, or blocked by most providers, it acts as a client. You can configure it with an email account that it will check at a regular interval, and then send messages that are sent to it. The system will also be able to send messages to a specified email address when it receives messages, but this should be a completely different email account than the one mentioned above. As with normal messages, you'll be able to specify a time and date for the message to be sent, otherwise it will be sent immediately.
